Interactive Brokers Developer — Custom IBKR Development
Hire an Interactive Brokers developer for automated trading strategies, strategy backtesting, portfolio rebalancing, signal automation and trade copiers — built as external software and connected to your account through the TWS API or another supported IBKR interface.
From a trading idea or existing application to a connected IBKR solution.
Nordman Algorithms develops external trading software for Interactive Brokers: automated strategies, execution tools, scanners, reporting, and integrations. Your application contains the custom logic; a supported IBKR interface provides access to the account, data, and order operations required by the project.
Our Interactive Brokers programmers start with your trading rules, target instruments, account setup, and existing systems. We select the connection method around those requirements and define how the software handles order updates, connection interruptions, and operating sessions.

IBKR API & Connectivity
Different interfaces for different requirements. We help select the appropriate route before development begins.
01
TWS API Development
Socket connection through TWS or IB Gateway
Connect custom applications to a running Trader Workstation or IB Gateway session for trading, market data, and account information. The same TWS API can use either host; the choice depends on whether you also need the full trading interface.
Connect applications using IBKR’s HTTP and streaming interfaces. Authentication, session requirements, and endpoint access are selected for the account and integration type. This is a separate connection option from the TWS API.
Integrate an existing order or execution system through IBKR’s FIX connectivity where the account and access requirements fit. FIX access needs a separate integration review; market data must come from another suitable interface or feed.
IBKR Algorithmic Trading & Trading Bot Development
Build a custom trading system around your entry and exit rules, position sizing, instrument selection, and session logic. Python or C# applications calculate decisions and manage orders through the selected IBKR interface.
IBKR Strategy Backtesting
Test your strategy in an external historical simulation using suitable IBKR or third-party data. Define commissions, slippage assumptions, trading sessions, and execution rules, then review trade logs and performance metrics against the agreed test scope.
IBKR Portfolio Rebalancing Automation
Translate target weights and allocation rules into a controlled rebalancing workflow. Calculate proposed adjustments, account for available cash and position constraints, and submit orders on a schedule, at drift thresholds, or after your approval.
IBKR Signal Automation & Signal Copier Development
Turn TradingView alerts, Telegram or Discord messages, webhooks, and accessible API signals into validated IBKR order instructions. Include instrument mapping, sizing rules, duplicate-signal handling, and execution feedback.
IBKR Trade Copier Development
Copy trading activity into or out of IBKR and between supported accounts or platforms. Define instrument mapping, quantity ratios, order updates, and position reconciliation around the interfaces available on both sides.
IBKR Prop Trading Automation
Develop custom automation for proprietary trading workflows on IBKR, including strategy execution, session controls, exposure limits, loss-limit actions, monitoring, and trader-specific rules. Implementation depends on the account structure, API permissions, and the firm’s trading requirements.
Third-Party API & Data Integration
Connect an existing application, analytics model, risk system, database, or reporting workflow to Interactive Brokers. Combine IBKR data with external market, historical, news, or fundamental feeds when your requirements call for them.
Additional Tools & Integrations
Interfaces, panels, scanners & reporting
IBKR Trade Panel & Trade Manager Development
Create focused order-entry panels and position-management tools: sizing, order templates, bracket controls, partial closes, and rule-based exits. Add the workflow you need alongside TWS, including automated management of existing positions.
IBKR Scanner & Dashboard Development
Find and monitor instruments with custom filters, ranked watchlists, technical conditions, and alerts. Combine available market data with positions, orders, and live account metrics in a desktop dashboard built for your workflow.
IBKR Reporting & Analytics Automation
Automate retrieval and processing of account reports, executions, and portfolio records. Use suitable API data and configured Flex reports for custom P&L calculations, performance analysis, scheduled exports, and reconciliation with your own records.
Have an Interactive Brokers task that is not on this list?
Not every requirement fits a predefined category. Send a description, reference files, or existing Python or C# source code — we will review it and tell you what is possible through the IBKR interfaces and what it would take.
An Interactive Brokers developer takes the project from initial requirements to delivery in six clear steps. Scope, price, and timeline are agreed before development begins.

Technology & connectivity
IBKR Development Technologies & Interfaces
The connectivity block above answers which interface suits a project. This one answers what we build with each — the software, the workflows, and where each interface earns its place.
What we build in Python
Python
IBKR trading applications written in Python: strategy execution and order management, portfolio and rebalancing tools, scanners, scheduled jobs, and the data handling around them.
Desktop applications and background services for IBKR accounts — trade panels, monitoring tools, and components that run beside software you already use.
Connecting an existing application to an IBKR account, placing and amending orders, reading positions and balances, and keeping an external system in step with the account.
Keeping software current as things change: order and execution updates delivered as they happen, position state kept in sync, and realtime data handled where the account is entitled to it.
High-volume order flow and execution reporting over a FIX session, including session management and recovery. Connectivity is arranged with IBKR and carries its own requirements.
A broad trading and market-data interface through TWS or IB Gateway — contract search, historical bars, market depth and complex order types among them. Software built on it runs alongside a logged-in session, so daily restarts, reconnection and gateway supervision are part of the work.
Interactive Brokers provides access to markets across a large global exchange network from one account. Which instruments a project can trade follows the trading permissions on your account; market-data access is arranged separately and can also come from an external provider.
Listed equity markets
Stocks & ETFs
Scanners that filter on your own conditions, trading systems around entry and exit rules, and portfolio rebalancing across equity and ETF holdings.
Execution logic built around contract specifications and session hours, with rollover between expiries handled as part of the strategy rather than by hand.
Trading logic for the digital assets available in your account, with pair selection, sizing rules and the same exposure controls as the rest of the portfolio. Availability depends on account eligibility, region and the supported crypto provider.
IBKR development planned around the trading workflow, connection requirements, and delivery scope of your project.
Built on the IBKR Interfaces
TWS API, Web API and FIX behave differently and grant different permissions. We work with all three, so scope matches what your account allows.
Built Around Your Environment
Your instruments, account permissions, data sources, existing applications, and operating requirements are considered from the start.
Clear Scope and Pricing
Requirements, project scope, milestones, price, and expected delivery are agreed before development begins.
NDA and IP Ownership
Confidential project discussions, source code delivery, and intellectual-property terms are agreed for the project.
Support After Delivery
Receive setup guidance, technical clarification, and the agreed post-delivery support for your IBKR application.

Practical answers about custom IBKR software, API access, testing, and project delivery.
Trader Workstation (TWS) is the full trading application. The TWS API is the programming interface used by external software to exchange data and order instructions with IBKR. IB Gateway is a lighter alternative host for the same API. Both TWS and IB Gateway require an authenticated session; the choice depends on how you want to run and monitor the software.
No. IBKR Web API uses HTTP and WebSocket interfaces with its own access, authentication, and session requirements. The TWS API uses a socket connection through TWS or IB Gateway. Client Portal Gateway, used in some Web API setups, is different from IB Gateway. We select the route after reviewing the account and required functions.
Yes. We can implement your strategy in an external Python application and connect it to Interactive Brokers. The scope can include market-data processing, entry and exit logic, sizing, order management, logging, and monitoring. The data source, operating sessions, and behaviour after connection interruptions are agreed as part of the specification.
Yes. An application can combine suitable IBKR data with licensed historical, market, news, or fundamental data from other sources. We review coverage, timestamps, contract mapping, and usage rights. External data can be useful where the strategy requires a different history, resolution, or dataset from the one available through IBKR.
We implement the agreed strategy in an external historical-testing workflow using appropriate data and execution assumptions. The scope defines instrument coverage, trading costs, sessions, and the outputs to review. Historical simulation and paper-account testing answer different questions: the latter checks the live integration using simulated orders. Neither reproduces every condition of live execution.
Signal automation receives instructions from a source such as TradingView, Telegram, Discord, or an API and converts them into IBKR orders. A trade copier follows trading activity from a source account or platform. Both require accessible interfaces and clear rules for instruments, sizing, order updates, and handling repeated events.
We can develop tools for a trader whose prop arrangement uses an IBKR account that permits the required API access and automation. The firm’s trading rules, account permissions, and allowed execution methods are reviewed first. The scope can include strategy automation, session controls, exposure monitoring, and risk responses; availability is specific to the account and firm.
Yes. Send the source code you are authorized to share, setup instructions, and a description of the current behaviour and remaining requirements. We review the architecture and connection method before agreeing whether to extend the existing application, replace a component, or complete the integration and testing.
The estimate depends on the trading rules, interfaces, instruments, data requirements, and testing scope. After the initial assessment, we provide a defined scope, price, and expected timeline before development begins. Existing code and API-access requirements are considered in the estimate.
Source code delivery, intellectual-property terms, project files, setup assistance, and support are agreed before development. NDA arrangements are available for confidential requirements. The delivery scope identifies what is included and what account access or third-party subscriptions you need to provide.
